The
Von Helding Estate, built in 1923, was the winter home of the
Baron and the Baroness Von Helding. It is still owned by the family.
Library
- In the library is a tapestry with the Baron's Coat of Arms.
Among the library's collections is a large book holding a copy
of The London Times, circa 1856, proclaiming significant
events of the year including the marriage of His Imperial Majesty
Alexander II of Russia and his bride Maria. Also in this room
is a gold, jeweled cigarette case given to the Baron by Michael
Romanoff, owner of Romanoff's restaurant. Nearby is a silver smoking
pipe decorated with horses given to the Baron by his wife on the
day his horse won at Churchill Downs.
Dining
Room - The base of the table is an exact replica of one in
King Ludwig's Bavarian fairytale castle. The chairs are handcarved
Venetian. A gold leafed, bronze chandelier discovered in the attic
now adorns the area above the table in this room, which also has
a secret panel.
Drawing
Room - Gold and crystal abound. Note the many pictures of
European royalty, which were presented to the family. There are
also many pictures of the Barons family. A large painting
of Cardinal Richelieu of France presides. The African mahogany
glass topped table was created from wood used to crate items shipped
from one of the Barons many safaris.
The
home has been on the historical home tour and its not unusual
for the people to end up remaining many hours past the closing
of the tour to traverse this historical home.
Marble
Room - As you enter this room you will notice bronze Nubian
Warriors that flank the bed of Napolean III. They came from the
entry of the Barons and Baroness castle in Austria. Behind
the bar hang many pictures of the old and new Hollywood stars
that frequented the home in the 30s,40s and today.
Center
Room - The center room has a picture of Rudolph Valentino
overlooking the floor that once graced his estate. On either side
of the entry to the library are wall fountains that have at times
brought forth not only water, but wine and champagne.
